Flash back 09 NFL Season—The past NFL season had been a bad year for the Giants as far as defence is concerned.

To remedy their weak defensive line head-coach Tom Coughlin made the tough decision to overhaul the defensive roster of the team to make them competitive this year.

While the Giants suffered big on defence, it was a different scenario as far as offence is concerned.

In 2009, the Giants saw the emergence of their offensive weapons in the persons of wide receivers Steve Smith and Mario Manningham who both had a great year as replacements to former Giants wide receivers Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress.

Key reinforcement—To beef-up its defensive line the Giants took a great approach during the off-season drafting college defensive end ace Jason Pierre-Paul of South Florida.

Pierre-Paul is expected to soften the impact of the loss of former Giants frontline defensive weapons Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan.

With the departure of Umenyiora and Strahan, Pierre-Paul will not take the lead role in manning tge defensive front of the New York Giants to make life hard for the opposing quarterbacks in the NFC East.

Key Personnel loss—LB Antonio Pierce—Defence could again become the biggest headache of the Giants in the 2010 NFL season with the departure of star linebacker Antonio Pierce.

Pierce who was dismissed by the team due to his role in the Plaxico Burress incident is a hige lost since he is considered as the heart and soul of the Giants defense.

The defensive end have only played nine games in 2009 and just took 40 tackles but his big contribution to the Giants defense is irreplaceable.
The biggest challenge for the Giants in the next NFL season is how to cope up with the departure of Pierce and to find a man who can somewhat create the same impact he had with the team as far as defense is concerned.

Key to success–Team defense takes effect—To be successful in the NFL season this year the team defense of the Giants needs to work efficiently.

The newly acquired personnel of the team must do their share in defense to ensure other NFL could not have a hayday scoring against them during their games.

In professional football one of the best moves is to have a tough as rock team defense.

Giants star quarterback Eli Manning no doubt is a heck of a passer in NFL but to make a difference in 2010 he needs to cut down from his 26.7 points per game average the past NFL season.

If the Giants hope to win the NFL East it needs to improve its defense big-time especially now that almost all of the other NFL teams have beef up its roster in preparation for the next NFL season.
